Location: About 42 KM west of Tirunelveli. About 12KM east of Tenkasi. About 6 KM south of Surandai and about 2 KM east of Pavoorchatram. It lies on the Tirunelveli - Tenkasi main road.
Area: About 5 KM radius.
Population: Keelapavoor has population of about 24000. There are about 12 different community people, including Muslims and Christians live together 95% Hindus. About 70% of the old generations are literate and younger generations are 98% educated. Its quite encouraging to note that in the past 10/15 years lot of engineers, doctors,auditors, advocates, arts and science graduates, Ph.Ds are emerging from keelapavoor relatives.
Administration: Keelapavoor comes under Alangulam Taluk and Tirunelveli district. It is now a major Town Panchayat category with maximum revenue generating village under Alangulam Taluk. It is governed locally by the elected Town Panchayat President and board members. Also there are two govt appointed Village Administrative Officers.
Ricemill: Keelapavoor has the highest number of rice mills in the South District of Tamil Nadu Keelapavoor is most famous for its rice production. There are around 30-40 rice mills. The town supplies rice to various towns in Tamil Nadu, various states and even various countries
Economy: The main source of income of the residents of Keelapavoor is agriculture and rolling beedi The agricultural goods, mainly vegetables and food grains, are brought to the market from the villages around Keelapavoor and then transported to the different parts of the state and Kerala.
MLA/MP: Keelapavoor comes under Alangulam assembly constituency and Tirunelveli parliament constituency.
Schools: There are two High School and two elementary schools serving the keelapavoor and surrounding villages.
Library: There are two libraries at Keelapavoor. One Government District Branch Library functioning near North busstand. There is another small library Library situated at Near Nadar Amman Kovil Maithanam.
Hospitals: There is a Govt. Dispensary in Primary Health Center grade. Apart from this, many doctors - MBBS, RIMP,LIMP qualified and experienced are running clinics. some Private hospitals are PM Hospital And Ravi hospital.
Veterinary Hospital: There is one veterinary hospital in Pavoorchatram.
Coop. Society: There is a co-op society and bank at Keelapavoor serving Keelapavoor and neighboring villages.
Banks: Central Bank of India and State Bank Of India is having a branch at Keelapavoor.
Post Office: There is a post and telegraph office with Sub Post master as cheif.
Telephone Facility: There is an Electronic Telephone Sub-Exchange directly under the control of Tenkasi Main Telephone Exchange, serving Pavoorchatram and neighboring villages. There are many private public STD/ISD/PCOs functioning at Pavoorchatram.
Mobile Telephone Facility: Govt owned BSNL, private operators AirCel, Vodafone, Airtel and Reliance have put up their towers at Keelapavoor and established connectivity with rest of the world.
EB Substation: Due to heavy demand with about 500 bore wells in and around keelapavoor, EB Department has installed one Main station at Keelapavoor.
Temples: There are many temples within Keelapavvoor.
